August 8, 2025, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (BSS/AFP) On the second day of the second Test at Queens Sports Club, New Zealand executed an exceptional batting performance, as Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, and Rachin Ravindra each scored centuries against Zimbabwe.
In the end, New Zealand scored an extraordinary 601 for three, surpassing Zimbabwe’s first innings total of 125. This resulted in a remarkable 476-run win.
Conway achieved an extraordinary 153, ending a 16-match streak of failing to score a Test century.
In his inaugural Test series since December 2023, Nicholls delivered an impressive performance, scoring 150 not out. Ravindra, on the other hand, maintained a strike rate of over one run per delivery and displayed his skills with an unbeaten 165.
The Black Caps maintained their dominance on the field, commencing the day with a score of 174 for one and a comfortable margin of 49 runs. Zimbabwe expended an hour expelling nightwatchman Jacob Duffy, who had scored 36 runs.
Only one additional wicket was lost during the remainder of the day: Conway, who misjudged the spin of the second new ball from Blessing Muzarabani and was bowled off his body.
After Conway’s dismissal, Ravindra assumed Nicholls’ position at 64. Ravindra, a left-handed batsman, initiated an aggressive attack and ultimately surpassed his companion by the conclusion of the innings, as were the other two centurions.
Ravindra achieved his century in a mere 104 deliveries. Ravindra’s furious assault at the end, which resulted in an impressive 65 runs off just 35 deliveries, was facilitated by the decision of stand-in captain Mitchell Santner not to declare, despite a solid lead.
Muzarabani and Tanaka Chivanga, two of Zimbabwe’s most exceptional fast bowlers, were undoubtedly exorbitantly priced.
Chivanga was unable to secure a wicket, allowing 94 runs in 17 overs, while Muzarabani concluded with a score of one for 101 in 24 overs.
Craig Ervine, the captain of Zimbabwe, employed seven bowlers to curtail the relentless scoring. However, the day proved to be difficult as New Zealand amassed an impressive 427 runs with only two wickets lost.
